I visited Angola to photograph "Aviations Sans Frontières" for a
French science magazine in 1996.

"Pilots Without Borders" is the aviation equivalent of "Doctors
Without Borders"; pilots and ground support personnel donated
their time and expertise to aid the transport of Doctors, medical
supplies and patients throughout the country.

In case you didn't know, Angola has been embroiled in one civil war or
another since the early 1960's, a locus of Cold War and
petro-political conflict in which the USA has played a capital
role. As this country of 9 million citizens has something like 11
million landmines, Aviateurs Sans Frontieres (1 aircraft when I
visited) is often the sole means of transport for remote regions of
the country.
